Obama is preparing to close the Gitmo gulag prison and give proper trials to those that have been held there. So now, after America’s allies have repudiated this terrible place, after the United States itself is prepared to close this disgraceful chapter, will Harper ask to have Omar Khadr repatriated? Or is Canada going to stand alone in support of a torture chamber in limbo as a tool to promote freedom and democracy right to the bitter end.
Let us bring Omar Khadr, let us determine what case there is – if any – against him. If need be, let us try him in a court of law. If he is guilty, let us punish him. If he was merely a child-soldier and a pawn of his father, let us rehabilitate him. But first, we must bring him home.
